TOM

MORRISON

Growing up in Glenalta and currently living in Belair, I am extremely passionate about our local community. The Mitcham Hills is such a fantastic place to live and work in and this is a major reason I want to give back to the local area.

As a small business owner, I have a drive to solve problems in new and unique ways. I studied business and entrepreneurship at Flinders University and want to bring innovative problem solving skills to Mitcham Council.

I'm not aligned to any political party.

In 2021, it was a privilege to be named the CIty of Mitcham's Young Citizen of the year for my work through the 20 Metre Trees Facebook page, which raises awareness of the importance of trees in our urban environment. Through 20 Metre Trees, I have worked collaboratively with council and state government to push for changes to our tree laws - as regardless of if you like or hate trees, the current laws are a mess, seeing the unnecessary loss of large trees and in many situations, increasing bushfire risk in the hills. This work has given me substantial exposure to a number of other areas including planning and navigating bureaucracy.

This has involved collaborating with Catherine Hutchesson (Member for Waite) to meet with the current Minister for Environment, Water and Climate Change, Susan Close and working with the previous member for Waite, Sam Duluk on his Exceptional Tree Register Bill.

I volunteer with a number of different organisations, including the Blackwood Action Group and Conservation SA.
